A Farm Miracle

A little miracle happened on our farm this week. One of our pregnant maiden dams has become increasingly skinny over her pregnancy. Our vet has not yet been able to determine why. We knew because of her body condition that she likely would not have enough milk for her cria. When he was born, it was even worse. Although his mama seemed to love him, she wouldn't let him nurse at all. We bottle fed him colostrum, but he wasn't eager to say the least. We were not hopeful for this little guy with the shiny black crimpy fleece. Six...

Introducing Freedom - Born on The Fourth of July

This guy was easy to name. Born on the fourth of July, I am proud to introduce you to Accoyo Freedom. Living in this country has always been something I treasure. Both John and I have a long line of family members who dedicated their lives to protecting our freedoms. My father served in the Korean War. John's father was Captain of the Police force in Elizabeth, N.J. My Uncle Chuck was a fighter pilot in WWII, and I have a nephew who is a systems engineer and works for our government in cyber security - just to name...

Midnight Confessions - The First Black Cria of the Season!

Introducing Ideuma Creek's Peruvian Midnight Confessions born on July 9th. For those of you following my 50 year cria naming present threads. . . follow carefully to get the obscure connection to my life! First of all, he is named after the song, "Midnight Confessions". But who knew a band called, "The Grass Roots" made the song popular in 1968? As far as I was concerned it was a "Secrets" original. You see when I was 17 I spent my first summer of five in Wildwood, NJ, as a waitress. One of my jobs was as a cocktail waitress at...

Welcome to Ideuma Creek, JP!

I'm behind on my naming of the cria! This little guy was born on June 26, almost three weeks early. He is quite tiny so I kept him in a separate pen with his mama for several days longer than usual. He's fine now. Happy, healthy and tearing up the pasture with the other little ones. It's time to give him a name, JP, short for J-Pack. You see there is a small bunch of girls whom I have the pleasure of eating lunch with every day since they were in 8th grade. They will be seniors this next year....

Meet Saint Francis!

The gift of names continues. :) I've decided to call this little boy, Francis. If you ask my students my two favorite things in this world, they would likely tell you books / reading and chocolate (not necessarily in that order!) The truth is my two favorite things in this world are animals and gardens. My world seems to revolve around them. Although I am not religious, I know Saint Francis of Assisi is the patron saint for both gardens and animals. If the truth is told, I've whispered more than a few prayers to him over the years asking...
